About This Program
Program Information
The Rinker School offers two master’s degree pathways. While both have the same number of credit hours, they differ slightly in terms of coursework structure and research requirements:
- Master of Construction Management (M.C.M.) - Non-Thesis Option: This non-thesis option is coursework-only and designed for students who intend to enter the construction industry directly after graduation. The M.C.M. requires 30 semester hours of coursework, plus 6 semester hours of leveling courses for students who do not hold an undergraduate degree in Construction Management accredited by the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE).
- Master of Science in Construction Management (M.S.C.M.) - Thesis Option: This thesis option is designed for students who are interested in conducting research or planning to pursue a Ph.D. in the future. The thesis option provides an in-depth research experience, allowing students to work closely with a faculty advisor and thesis committee on construction-related topics. The M.S.C.M. also requires 30 semester hours of coursework, plus 6 semester hours of leveling courses for students who do not hold an undergraduate degree in Construction Management accredited by the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE). The M.S.C.M. includes 6 semester hours of BCN 6971 (Research for Master’s Thesis), dedicated to research and thesis writing, along with BCN 6036 (Research Methods in Construction).
Further details regarding both degrees are found at https://dcp.ufl.edu/rinker/academics/cm/masters/.
Combination program: The Rinker School participates in a combination degree program between the Bachelor of Science in Construction Management (B.S.C.M.) and the Master of Science in Construction Management (M.S.C.M.). The program allows participating undergraduate students to take 12 semester hours of graduate coursework while completing their undergraduate degree, shortening the duration of the M.S.C.M. to one year. To be eligible to apply, B.S.C.M. students must have an upper-division grade point average of at least 3.4 and have the approval of the Rinker School’s undergraduate and graduate programs.
