About This Program

Program Information

The doctoral program in Counseling and Counselor Education prepares students for careers in academia and advanced clinical and administrative positions. Our program aligns with the University of Florida's mission to prepare the next generation of scholars and professional leaders. Thus, our doctoral program is a good fit for individuals who want to fulfill the roles of counselor educators - research, writing, teaching, service, securing external funding to support scholarship, assuming professional leadership positions, etc. The doctoral program ideally suits individuals with previously earned master's and at least two years of clinical experience. Doctoral students complete coursework and a doctoral clinical internship, participate in teaching and supervision, and conduct research leading to the completion of a dissertation. Students average 3 to 5 years to complete the doctorate, many balancing work and school commitments.  In addition to other admission materials, GRE scores must be submitted upon application to the Counseling and Counselor Education doctoral program.  Please visit https://education.ufl.edu/counselor-education/admissions/ for further information about admission requirements to our programs.
